In this section I have included the work I do with people with disabilities, people with mental health issues, older adults and other vulnerable adults. This work occurs across a range of seetings.

A Studio Arts (a visual arts programme for adults with disabilities and autism) project inspired by Craftspace and Outside In's Radical Craft touring exhibition. Participants made work inspired by objects from Tullie Houses's collections which were placed into the museum to create a trail through the galleries.

Working with the Wednesday Art Group exploring machine embroidery on water soluble fabric and hand embroidery. This culminated in an exhibition at Carlisle Archives Centre.

Lead Artist: Somme 100 Quilt Project
September 2016
Prism Arts, Carlisle
A partnership project between Prism Arts and Cumbria's Museum of Military Life. We worked with schools and community groups to make patches to create a commemorative quilt for the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. The work was unfurled on Armistice Day at Carlisle Castle.

Soft Sculpture

Working with the Wednesday Art group to explore their ideas using soft sculpture techniques. The group designed and created their own quirky characters.

Vikings!

Working with Prism Arts Studio Theatre West group and pupils at Distington Community School on a Heritage Lottery Funded project exploring West Cumbria's Viking heritage. I ran spinning and weaving sessions with the participants.

Interiors Project

Working with the No Borders Art Group (a group of adults from Carlton Day Centre with profound learning disabilities) to create model interiors. Their work was then shown at the exhibition '60 Days of No Borders' at the Prism Arts studios.
Crafting Social

Women and Families Accommodation Services, Carlisle
Funded by the Laurie Brewis Trust I organised and ran a weekly craft and social drop in for services users at the facility.
The Wetlands Project

Researching, designing and making a felt and willow sculpture of a dragonfly with a group of adults with disabilities. The sculpture is currently on display at Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery.
Textiles Workshops

Organising and delivering a textiles course for a group from Lister House which supports people with cerebral palsy. Techniques covered include felt making and using printing blocks.
No Borders Installation and Workshops

Lantern Parade

Working with DART (Drugs and Alcohol Rehabilitation Team) and adults with learning disabilities I led several lantern making workshops at The Heathlands Project. The resulting group and individual lanterns were then paraded through Carlisle city centre as part of the 2010 Starlight Lantern Parade.
CreateIt! Art Group

Eden Mencap Society, Penrith
I helped organise and run this group for adults with learning disabilities. It was service user led and we undertook a range of different techniques and used many different materials, including felt making, painting and drawing. Activities included making props and costumes for the May Day Parade.
Women’s Support Group
January-May 2007
Mind, Rochdale
My main purpose at this group was to offer help with a range of craft activities as well as to listen to the women who attended. All the women suffer from mental health issues and the support group allows them to meet other women in the same situation in a safe and non threatening environment.
